Keel Row

Keel Row is an old song about the life among keelmen of Newcastle upon Tyne. The melody may be of Scottish or English origins, but likely predates the mid-1700’s. Several variations known as the “Shields Variations” are included in the melody version, below.

Sung lightly by Kathleen Ferrier
It’s also used frequently in Sponge Bob. It’s a nice squeezebox rendition..

Sailor’s Hornpipe

Learning to dance this very old hornpipe is often integrated into training for British Sea Cadets, as a form of calisthentics.. It is also known as the College Hornpipe.

Sea Cadets in a training demonstration.
The Banjo is awesome, but the photo bombers steal the show.

Volte-16th Cent

A stately Renaissance dance which involved gently throwing (vault-volte?) your dance partner. It’s got clear simple harmonies and an easy to find downbeat upon which you can throw your friend.
